Wombats
Common Wombats (Vombatus ursinus) are medium-sized burrowing mammals found in south-eastern Australia and throughout Tasmania. Wombats are closely related to Koala's, Australia's iconic animal. Wombats are champion diggers, living in extensive burrow networks. They are mostly active at dusk, dawn, and at night, foraging for grasses, sedges, and tubers. They're absolutely charming in person.

Our neighbors Robyn, Jamie, Rosie, and Sam helped raise two orphaned wombats, Nellie and Noddy, pictured below along with Sid Vicious, another orphan. After Nellie and Noddy were old enough, Jamie released them on their block of land, well into the bush. The wombats’ new home had some unused burrows so Nellie and Noddy settled in beautifully.
